Fast
internet access has opened up new ways to dispatch audio.
Low resolution mp3 files can be quickly emailed for client
approval, and higher quality versions are becoming more accepted
for broadcast use. Several radio despatch companies have web-based
distribution systems. Audio components from studios around
the world can be downloaded for local post-production.
There
are, however, a number of things to consider when going on-line.
As with any digital audio, a format
must be determined that is useable by the receiver; high quality
audio produces fairly large file sizes that can be time consuming
to send or receive; and email, which was really never designed
to handle audio files, can sometimes have problems decoding,
or an email server may simply refuse to handle files over
a certain size
